New Mexico, exporting useful products since 1945! It'll never be accepted, though; we'll be stuck with yet another wretched Zia symbol to remind us that a state governed by a presidential aspirant is not allowed to be interesting.
Remarkably, the comment thread to the New Mexican article has some pretty decent examples of New Mexican wit: "I was leaning towards it saying 'Land of Flea - Home of the Plague'" "I thought it was supposed to be two dimes and a nickle taped together."
Hat tip to Jack, who is generally too harried for blogging.

Such a shame. And so many options too: mountains, ancient Indian ruins, aliens, chile, corrupt politicians (although that might be a little hard for a quarter), drunks getting hauled off to jail, yuppie Texans, the list goes on and on. I mean, we're the scuba capital of the Southwest (despite stiff competition from Arizona)! Can't we get a little respect?
What are you talking about? That's frickin' awesome.
I agree with Jack - a chilie pepper, a broken beer bottle - that says New Mexico to me. I suppose I care not to think of the radiation that caused many a hushed up case of cancer...
Oh, and Jack I left a comment on your blog:)
Oh yeah, the mushroom cloud is "frickin' awesome," definitely, it's the design they actually chose that's beyond lame.
You're right, it does kind of look like a big cauliflower.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. *gasp*
HAWHAWHAHAHAHAHA!
