Were the Gracchi worth the hassle?
Not one among us knows;
Were the Gracchi worth the hassle?
'Round the globe the query goes.
It is shouted upon rooftops--
It is whispered in the hall--
Politicians practice Latin
Whilst waiting for the call
From the local TV station
To argue for their side
Upon the "Roman Question":
To vaunt; or to deride?

Tiberius and Gaius,
Those sempiternal names,
Each day face wilder slanders
And exculpatory claims:
As the nation tears itself apart,
Highest lord and lowest vassal
Seek an answer to the question:
Were the Gracchi worth the hassle?

I'm intrigued but bewildered. Can you elaborate?

Meine Ratte-Reime stehen selbst bereit; weder sollen I noch irgendein anderes sie stützen.

Has this something to do with the Kennedys?
